Unequal Forces Line Up for Battle |
|
The 7th US Army marched on Nuremberg with two tank divisions, three infantry divisions, and an armoured reconnaissance regiment with a total of 45,000 troops. The divisions had already fought at various war theatres in Europe.

The German combat units defending Nuremberg merely consisted of an SS regiment of approximately 500 soldiers, 2,000 fighter pilots plus ground personnel at airstrips in the vicinity, elderly flak soldiers, Russian volunteers, young Reich Labour men, and remainders of spare troops stationed in Nuremberg with wounded and recuperating soldiers, along with a number of People Storm companies and Hitler Youth members.
